In an interview with David Swanson, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain Executive Director Husain Abdulla highlighted US interests as the reason for its silence on human rights abuses, including oil, military operations, and a US relationship with Saudi Arabia, which currently interferes extensively in Bahrain. Mr. Abdulla also spoke about ADHRB’s campaign of awareness against Bahraini FIFA presidential candidate Sheikh Salman, who has been accused of crimes against humanity. “If he could not protect the football players in Bahrain,” said Mr. Abdulla, “what kind of legitimacy does he have to respect the football players of the world?”
