Geneva, Switzerland — 30 September 2015 — On behalf of Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain, the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, human rights attorney Mohamed al-Tajer delivered an oral intervention at the 30th session of the UN Human Rights Council that drew attention to the Bahraini government’s lack of cooperation with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). In particular, Mr. al-Tajer urged Bahrain to act on its repeated promises to promulgate a technical cooperation agreement with the OHCHR. Additionally, he stated that any agreement between the OHCHR and Bahrain must include a permanent country office acting within a full reporting mandate. An Arabic translation of Mr. al-Tajer’s remarks can be found here.
