20 August 2015 – Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain, along with the Kuwait Watch for Human Rights Organization, submitted a report to the United Nations Committee on Civil and Political Rights (UN-CCPR) concerning Kuwait’s failure to implement key provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Kuwait acceded to the ICCPR in 1996; since accession, the government has continued to stifle the freedoms of assembly and expression, engage in widespread campaigns of arbitrary detention, and refused to curtail police brutality and use of torture. The report recommends that Kuwait take extensive measures to bring its practices in line with its international human rights commitments and obligations associated with the ICCPR.
