Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) condemns, in the strongest terms, yesterday’s attacks against the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.
“Religious intolerance and hatred are unacceptable, and should be fully condemned, but even more damnable are the violent and reprehensible attacks perpetrated in Benghazi,” said Husain Abdulla, Director of ADHRB. “Those responsible for the attacks and the murder of American citizens must be held fully accountable for their crimes.”
ADHRB calls upon the Government of Libya to use lawful means to bring this violence to an end, and to hold the perpetrators fully accountable. ADHRB also calls upon religious and sectarian groups to reject all attempts to incite hatred and violence.
“The Government of Libya must decry this needless violence and call for tolerance and understanding,” said Abdulla. “Libya must not allow these attacks to be the undoing of its efforts to achieve democracy.”
