Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) is seeking creative, organized, passionate, and hard-working applicants for a full-time six month Advocacy Internship in New York City. This is a remote, office-less, and unpaid internship that reports directly to the Executive Director. We are happy to work with students seeking academic course credit for their work.
Through this program, interns can expect to gain valuable hands-on advocacy experience through meetings with delegations and through engagement with the United Nations General Assembly. In their work, interns will advocate for states to take a stronger stance towards human rights abuses in Bahrain and the Arab Gulf, in particular at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva and the General Assembly in New York. Interns will engage with the General Assembly, following debates and keeping track of important updates. Through their work, interns will learn how to request and prepare for meetings with missions and civil society organizations. In learning how to conduct these meetings, interns will develop talking points and create tailored briefing documents for dissemination with delegations. In support of their advocacy work, interns may be asked to draft blogs and dispatches addressing important issues concerning human rights in Bahrain and the Arab Gulf. Interns will also learn about the General Assembly, the mechanisms of the UN including the Human Rights Council, and broader international approach to rights abuses in the region.
