Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) put forth a written statement to the Human Rights Council. The submission raises concerns about the use of capital punishment in Saudi Arabia, in particular against dissidents and peaceful protesters. In view of the increasing imposition of the death penalty over the past several years, the government of Saudi Arabia has executed at least 806 people since 2014. Given that, ADHRB calls upon the international community and the Human Rights Council to urge Saudi Arabia to guarantee legal counsel and fair trials and grant a re-trial in accordance with international standards, as well as holding all individuals involved in torture accountable and prosecute those found guilty. We also ask the Saudi government to provide the families of those executed with adequate compensation and immediately institute a moratorium on the death penalty with an aim as to its abolition.
