4 November 2019 – On 29 October, MP Jean François Mbaye tabled a question to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs. He raised concern regarding the ongoing human rights violations committed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, highlighting the 2014 elections where the rights of the political opposition were restricted, as well as the numerous political opposition members and activists who defend freedom of speech and human rights that are allegedly arbitrarily imprisoned in inhumane conditions and are regularly subject to torture. In particular, MP Mbaye referenced the cases of Sheikh Ali Salman, Hassan Mushaima, Abdulwahab Hussain, Nabeel Rajab, and Dr. Abduljalil Al-Singace. He asked to know the manner according to which the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs follows these cases, and what are the diplomatic tools that France has so as to launch initiatives towards the Bahraini political opposition’s rights being respected or, at least, towards the improvement of the opposition’s detention conditions.
