7 October 2019 – On 23 September 2019, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) sent letters to the United States (US) Department of State (DoS) Office of the Inspector General and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Inspector General. On 2 October 2019, ADHRB also sent letters to the US Department of Justice (DoJ) Office of Professional Responsibility, DoJ Office of the Inspector General, DoJ Victims’ Rights Ombudsman, and Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Inspector General. These letters informed the oversight bodies of the letters previously sent by ADHRB to US federal agencies that highlighted multiple individuals in Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) – including Brigadier Abdulaziz Mayoof al Rumaihi, Brigadier Mubarak bin Huwail al-Merri, Colonel Bassam Mohammed al-Muraj, Lt. Fawaz al-Sameem, Lt. Col. Adnan Bahar, and Major Maryam Al-Bardouli – who have been allegedly involved or complicit in gross violations of human rights (GVHR). ADHRB urges each of these oversight bodies to ensure that the information sent to the US federal agencies has been thoroughly and seriously investigated by the appropriate offices.
