On 12 June 2019, Pierre Laurent, a French Senator since 2012, sent a letter to France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian drawing his attention to the human rights situation in Bahrain in general and to the threats of execution against Mr Ahmed Al-Malali and Mr Ali Al-Arab in particular. In his letter, Laurent asks Minister Le Drian what France intends to do to “renew with the Bahraini authorities its concerns about the deteriorating human rights situation and, more immediately, to intervene with King Hamed Ben Issa Al Khalifa on behalf of Mr. Ahmed Al-Malali and Mr. Ali Al-Arab.”
Laurent also sent a letter to Bahrain’s ambassador to France, Muhammad Abdul Ghaffar Abdulla, drawing his attention to the threats of execution against Mr. Ahmed Al-Malali and Mr. Ali Al-Arab, and urging the Bahraini authorities not to execute Al-Arab and Al-Malali.
