Geneva, Switzerland — 24 September 2015 — On behalf of Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB), the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), ADHRB International Advocacy Officer Michael Payne delivered an oral intervention outlining states’ failure to engage with the UN Special Procedures. In particular, he highlighted the Bahraini government’s refusal to cooperate with the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and a series of Special Rapporteurs that have requested and re-requested permission to enter Bahrain in order to investigate the human rights situation.
