Human Rights Organizations Ask 47 Countries to Call for Release of Bahraini Political Prisoners
2 September 2014 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) condemn the arbitrary detention of prominent Bahraini human rights defender Maryam al-Khawaja. Maryam, who will stand trial on 6 September for allegedly attacking a lieutenant and a policewoman, was arrested at the Manama airport on Friday 29 August by Bahraini authorities after traveling to the country to visit her father, Abdulhadi al-Khawaja.
